Kids Pirate Party Ideas

With the advent of many pirate themed movies, namely Pirates of the Caribbean and its sequels, Hollywood has set a trend for parents to organize pirate themed party for their children. To accentuate the mood for the party, parents want everything from the appetizers to food, cakes and ambiance reminiscent of a pirate’s feast. Luckily these days, with so many ways to turn even the simplest of foods to the right gourmet, parents are spoilt for choice.

To many kids, the food of choice would be chips and other snack food. While traditional pirates are not privy to these kinds of food, with a little imagination, parents can create an atmosphere whereby these snacks can blend right in with the rest of the party items. For example, parents can set up a snack table. On the table put a Jolly Roger or pirate flag. Place several boxes decorated like pirate treasure chests on the table and place chip bowls or snack foods inside them. In the boxes and around the table sprinkle sand and chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil. Add some large fake jewels dangling from the treasure chest. The key here is to understand that it is not the food that is chosen but rather the presentation of the food that matters. By using ingenuity and creativity, almost anything can be turned into a pirate’s delight when it comes to food.

The options of choosing a cake are pretty limitless too. There’s the option of getting a cake that has a screen shot of a pirate movie or others may opt to make their own Jolly Roger cake, resplendent with dark chocolate icing for the backdrop, so that it contrasts with the skull and crossbones. It may be possible to find skull and crossbones in the form of little sugar candies. The inside of the cake can be of any flavor, depending on the choice of the children.

There are a variety of fruit juices that can be served for drinks. Some parents might even want to be more innovative by using coconuts. The coconuts are hollowed out and instead filled with fruit juices and a straw can be used to drink from the coconut. In addition a sword toothpick skewers with a cherry attached can be placed in the drink as well. For a more conventional approach, there are skull and crossbones cups, saucers and napkins. By serving the food on pirate themed plates, the presentation of the food is complete.
